Get Out Of Town and Rent a Harley!
Get out of town and rent a Harley! It's a new year and resolutions are all over social media. Everything from losing weight, to quit smoking, to get that new job that you've always wanted. But what about a resolution for us? What about a resolution for those that love their knees in the breeze and wind in their hair? The resolution to get more saddle time in.
Who wouldn't love to do that? I know I would but it's hard when you can only ride 6 months out of the year due to the weather in Western Pennsylvania. Wouldn't it be nice to escape? Wouldn't it be nice to go to a place where you know there is sunshine 90% of the time?
Maybe you can. Maybe the idea isn't too far fetched. Why not plan an extended weekend getaway at a southern destination of your choice? I mean it's not hurricane season, right? Okay that sounds all well and good, but how do you get your motorcycle south without a trailer and without the expense of a delivery company? That's easy, rent one.
There are hundreds of dealerships that rent motorcycles for a fraction of the cost to have your bike delivered. The best part is that maybe you can rent something that you've always wanted to try. If you are a Dyna or Softail fan, go for the bagger. If you have a bagger, try the Road Glide. Experiment a little and have some fun! My only word of caution is stay within your comfort zone. You're going to be in new territory on a new machine that you are unfamiliar with. Don't get too crazy.
I had the opportunity a few years ago to leave the winter behind and travel to Hawaii. This place is like paradise on earth. The sights, the smells, the sun, and even the rain. It's all something that I never experienced before and I hope to do it before I leave this round marble we live on.
The roads are small and narrow, but there are twists and turns around every corner. There is a million year volcano on one side and the endless view of the ocean on the other side of the road. Every so many miles there is a small village that has their own unique eats and roadside attraction. I wish I had more time to explore but I was very thankful for the time on the bike that I did have.
I'm not saying that you have to burn a week of vacation and fly 14 hours away. What's wrong with a little 3-4 hour flight to Florida? This is the time of year when they ride down there because the summers are way too hot. Especially for air-cooled motorcycles like Harley-Davidsons.
Instead of a week, why not take a little extended weekend? Cut out of work on Friday and call in sick on Monday. Bam! You have 3 and a half days of fun in the sun on a rented Harley-Davidson Motorcycle in the sunshine state. The best part is that when you rent a bike all the gear is provided so you don't have to take anything other than an overnight bag.
This trip doesn't have to be expensive either. You can fly out of Latrobe hit the tarmac in Florida and Uber over to the closest Harley-Davidson dealership that rents bikes. (Obviously make sure you make a reservation ahead of time.) Ride the bike over to the motel so that you can get out the door at the crack of dawn and make the most of your day. The trick is not to rent the bike the next morning because most dealerships don't open until 10 and it takes an hour to do paperwork, by that time you've burnt half of your day in the saddle.
I'm telling you, an extended weekend for some vitamin D on the seat of a Harley is exactly what the doctor is ordering and it will be enough of a fix to get you to April when you can bring your two-wheeled beauty out of hibernation.
