The Electra Glide® Standard is Back For 2019!
I couldn’t be more excited that the Electra Glide® Standard is back in the Harley-Davidson® Touring line-up!
I’ve been with Hot Metal Harley-Davidson® since 2006 and I’ve seen models come and go. This is one of the few times where I can say I saw a model go and come back again.
When I first started in sales, this model was a great seller. It was a base Touring model that you could get into for around $15,000 at the time. The beautiful thing about it is that you can add to the bike at your leisure and your budget. I was really bummed when it went away in 2008.
When Street Glides came in to the picture in 2006, they kind of took over as the base Touring model and eliminated the need for the Electra Glide® Standard. (Or so we thought at the time.) The one down side to the Street glide was the fact that it cost several thousand dollars more than the bare bones FLHT. Other than that it was (and still is) one of the most popular models Harley-Davidson® sells.
That being said, there were many likeminded people who started to miss the “entry-level” touring model from the line-up so they made their voices heard. The Motor Company listened and brought back a true American Classic at a price point under $19,000. Yes, I know that’s a lot of money, but for a fixed fairing touring motorcycle that isn’t too shabby.
It comes standard with a Milwaukee-Eight® V-Twin Engine. It’s an 107″ model and has plenty of get-up and go. You can get away from the screen and radio, and have an empty inner fairing (which will save you about $3,000) and give you quiet time to think to yourself as you cruise down the road. Harley-Davidson® calls this minimalist technology. Don’t worry, there is still a cigarette lighter where you can plug your phone in and charge it for when you aren’t riding.
The bike comes with a solo touring seat, though you will most likely get a passenger seat and foot rests added on at some time. This was just another way they were able to keep the cost low enough to come in under the $19,000 mark.
The batwing fairing comes with a mid-height windshield to give you extra protection from the elements and it delivers smooth air flow and reduced head buffeting.
Though you are eliminating many extras, the basics are still there to give you a legendary ride. With the Electra Glide® Standard you get high-performing emulsion-technology rear shock absorbers. The front 49mm forks come with dual bending valve suspension and deliver linear damping characteristics for a smooth and controlled ride which comes in handy for these wonderful Pennsylvania roads.
