Winter Storage in Western PA
It’s a much-debated topic around the motorcycle community every year about this time. Do I put the bike away, do I leave it out for a sunny day, do I keep it in my garage, or do I put it in storage?
All of these are very good questions. It depends on what type of rider you are. Are you a year round rider? Winter storage wouldn’t make sense. Are you a rider that rides in 50 degree plus weather? Maybe this could work for you. Are you a rider that enjoys 60 plus degrees and absolutely no salt? Then winter storage is a must-have.
I’ve been around the dealership since 2006 and in those 13 years I’ve seen it all. Bikes left in the elements with no cover. Bikes left in the back yard with a cover. Bikes left in a garage with no neat, and then bikes that are in for yearly for winter storage.
I can tell you which one holds their value better. I can also tell you which one has less maintenance issues from constant freezing and thawing, moisture, and other elements that are part of winters here in South Western PA.
Harley-Davidson motorcycles are premium investments. They are not cheap motorcycles by any means. If you want a cheap motorcycle, there is a big market selection.
However, if you want the best, then you own a Harley-Davidson. I don’t say this because I sell them. I say this because I own one. I say this because I’m part of the culture. I say this because I spent over a decade of my life helping people fulfill their dreams of freedom on the open road by way of two wheels. I sell the American Dream, but that dream can be pricy if you don’t protect your investment.
Every year that I’ve been here I’ve seen 100 bikes arrive in November & December and then leave again in April and May. These are the cream of the crop motorcycles and they are the every day weekend warrior motorcycles. These guys and gals “get” what proper storage is and should be.
With winter storage at Hot Metal Harley-Davidson, you have something that is very important. A climate controlled facility. You don’t have elements beating down on your bike or severe cold blowing through your garage doors every time they are opened to take the car out. It is one constant temperature year round. This is not only good news for your chrome, but it’s good news for the engine, the gaskets, the leather, and rubber. The whole bike.
We offer 24/7 security—and we’re located right NEXT to a police station. How much better does it get than that? We have security cameras running around the clock monitoring your vehicle for anything out of the ordinary.
We have your bike on a battery tender for the entire time it’s here. Why is this important? Because a properly tendered motorcycle battery can last up to 7 years. Not to mention it will be ready to roll when you arrive in spring to pick it up.
Something people don’t realize is that gas goes bad while it’s sitting around. That’s why we add fuel stabilizer to your bike when you store it with us. It’s hard to get a good bike running on a bad tank of gas. We have you covered there.
Before your bike is nestled away in our warehouse, we change the oil. Why before? Because doing it before leaves no impurities behind. Your engine is clean for the entire duration of it’s stay. It also leaves your bike road-ready when you get the itch come April.
You also get a fresh wash before we turn it over to you. While your bike was covered up in storage, dust still will get in after several months of sitting. That’s why we wash it up only
While I acknowledge and respect those that ride year round, I think that given our climate, the road conditions for the next few months, and the hours of available sunlight (and heat), I think that it’s best to store your bike away for a few months and at $299.99, I can’t think of a better worry-free investment for your ride.
